This first semester as a whole was great so far, but also not, as for everyone there's ups and downs. Artistically i have written many things on guitar and bass, but have not gotten to finishing the songs, so because of that, I haven't really gotten to recording much yet. My SMART goal was to write and record one song per month for the whole year, it was going strong the first couple months, but because of other classes and assignments, I got behind in that feat. One of the major highlights was getting another member of out band, which was great because we could be greater weith what we had, another was the celebration of learning performance. With our new coming member we could play much more complicated songs, and other songs that sound better with more guitar. We played Jacob's Ladder by Rush, Carol of the Bells, and Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughan. As an artist I learned what time I have pretty much a writers block on my instrument, and what style I like top write in. My biggest challenge really is writing parts and not finishing the song, as I demonstrated to myself, I found that I need other people to help finish the process. The latter half of the year I want to come back to doing my SMART goal, and challenge myself to finish the songs that are lost in the dark at this point in time.

This school year I have been given the task of making myself two SMART goals. One for my personal life, and one for the academy, just like last year. This year is a different story though, because this year I am motivated to do whatever this year. Anyways, for those who don't know what a SMART goal is, here is a photo showing what it is.
Relevant in the way that grade 11 is the most important school year in terms of post secondary education, because all of the marks from this year are what they mostly look at. In terms of time, the time in this goal is the time when I get work in. Such as when everything is due. All my homework will be done on weekends (if any), and If not it will be made a priority the first day of the week, the dreaded Monday.
My academy goal is way more complex than my personal goal. My academy goal specifically is to create and record at least one song or more per month throughout the entire year, with the edition of a couple accompanying music videos to go with some of them. This effort will be measured really strict to ensure that it's even possible to completely finish this. The target that i'm trying to hit is a bit of a stretch in terms of me and my bands ability. But, I believe with the hardest of work, we can achieve it. Relevancy of this project is at a 10, the music academy is all about music and things surrounding that idea, so I feel the best way to do music is to make it, with videos, like professionals. I'm still trying to develop a more strict time table, but once again, I am trying to achieve AT LEAST one or more songs per month with some having videos. That will complete my task of a full album (10-12 songs). Music videos will depend on the song and how much time that we have, so that will be decided when we have content to make it off of. Anyways, these are my SMART goals this year. See ya next time. So for for my EP that is currently a work in progress, I have to make the album art, as any good musician should, so that I did. The album art is a bit of a joke cover, though I might use it for a joke album. This is Gerald the Demon Goat. As you can see this is clearly not what i'm going to use for the final cover, but i'll get to the final product at a later date. Anyways, i'm going to talk about how I went by making this beautiful work of art. First off, I have no idea how I came by finding this goat, but I did, so, I made the background red since it was originally transparent. Then I filled in the outer edge of the goat because there was empty clear spaces. Then I got a couple fire pngs to make the tail, beard, and ears light up, literally. Last off, I got the png of the eye thing to make it glow. That's about it, see ya. PS. I'm going to make a blog of the actual product, so calm yourself. This semester was challenging, but I'm not here to talk about that. I am going to talk about music. This semester I have achieved the skill of playing the bass guitar, it will be a while till I master it, but for now I can play it. One of the highlights of this semester was our bands first gig. It wasn't the best we could've done, but success doesn't come without practice, and that's what i have been doing since. One thing I learned through the work that I have done this semester is that music isn't that hard to read and understand. One of the challenges that I have been faced with is that there was no lefty basses, so most of the first half of the school year I have learned to play bass upside down, until after the Christmas break, where I have gotten the Ibanez SR300EL, which is a beautiful silver bass. Then I learned the way i was supposed to again. Next semester one of my goals is to practice songs to the point of no failure, so I don't have to go through what I went through during our first gig, and fail again. Another thing I want to work on is my picking technique, such as the speed and finesse of my playing. Anyways, that's all I wanted to talk about for now. See ya next time.
Yesterday at the Celebration of Learning me and my band the "Snow Sentinels" played our first gig. As an individual I think I did alright, minus Birthday by the Beatles. I messed up a little bit. As for us playing as a group it could've been better. Our sound levels were a bit off for two of the songs, plus I messed up and that carried into Brandon messing up because of my mistake. Before the show, I was really nervous. Brandon and I both considered not even playing, but we practiced and then we performed. During the performance I felt better because it was just our parents watching, and not complete strangers. After the performance I felt a bit more confident hearing that all our parents and Mr. Purnell enjoyed our performance. If I could change anything I would change my sound levels. I would also remember the parts better if I could redo the performance. Anyways, that's about what have to say this time. See ya next time.
If you know me then you know that I don't manage my time well, and that's what I'm gonna talk about today.
This was supposed to be my second blog post but it's my first, Why you ask? It's because of all my procrastinating, I do it way too much. Speaking of procrastination, I have had a thing due for many, many weeks. It's my song I have to make with sounds i've recorded throughout the school. I'm going to do that during flex this week. Anyways, I'm gonna talk about what I am currently working on. I am prioritizing the website research assignment in class, where we find professional artists' websites and answer questions about them. I should also talk about SMART goals, of which I do not have because I don't like doing them. I have recently been working on the calendar for this and the Snow Sentinels websites. That's about it for what I'm going to talk about this time. See ya next time. |
